Know About the Complications of Flight Cancellation Refund Process

Do you have to cancel your flight due to unforeseen changes in your schedule? You may need to pay for a flight cancellation fee. Most airlines require passengers to pay to cancel their flights even if they have already paid for their tickets in full. Refundable tickets are only for those who purchased business class flights because passengers who fly premium tend to change schedules.

On the other hand, if your flight is cancelled by the airline itself, then you are entitled to a flight cancellation refund and compensation. According to the EU261/2004 regulations, air passengers have the right to ask for reimbursement and compensation from the airlines if their flights are cancelled less than 14 days before the departure date.

However, the process of getting a refund is tricky. You must first determine if you are eligible or not before you start calling the airline for compensation. You may apply if you have met the following conditions.

Flight route:
European country - European country (EU and non-EU airlines)
European country - non-European country (EU and non-EU airlines)
Non-European country - European country (EU airline)

The money you will      get from the airlines will range from 125 Euros to 600 Euros. They will base the amount on three things:

The date when you were given the flight cancellation notice
        The distance travelled
The time your replacement flight arrived at the final destination

Here are some of the reasons why your application may get rejected

The airline has proven that you were personally informed that the flight was cancelled more than 14 days before your departure.
You were informed of the flight cancellation between 7-14 days before the departure, but the airline managed to provide a replacement      flight that is not departing 2 hours earlier than scheduled or arrives 4 hours later than the original arrival time.
The flight was cancelled due to 'extraordinary circumstances.'

The process of getting a flight cancellation refund and compensation can be overwhelming. In fact, the success rate is only 2%. The good news is that you can partner with a flight compensation company. All you need to do is to give them the necessary details, and they will handle all the administrative work for you.
